8 unique places to discover in @visitrivercountry, NSW 🚙

We recently did a trip to @visitrivercountry dropping into towns along the border of Victoria and NSW and came across two quaint towns - Tooleybuc and Moulamein, with community, agriculture and nature at their heart… I seriously can’t believe there’s so many unique things here! 😮

Here were some unexpected spots we loved visiting:

🌉 Tooleybuc Bridge – A historic timber truss bridge spanning the Murray River.

🗿Tooleybuc Art Sculpture – See the impressive 11-metre sculpture Gathering the Bounty by Stuart Green.

🏠 Bridge Keeper’s Cottage – Browse for secondhand treasures inside a restored 1930s cottage beside the bridge
.
🍽️ @cchtooleybuc – Visit NSW’s 2026 ‘Best Bush Pub’ for delicious parmas and a Sunday roast any day of the week.

🎨 Moulamein Water Tower – Admire colourful murals celebrating the town’s history, agriculture and natural environment.

🌳 The Big Tree – Walk along the Edward River in Moulamein to see a giant river red gum measuring 11.6 metres around.

🍰 @moulameinart – Browse local art, grab a hot drink and enjoy generous slices of homemade cake for just $5.

🐑 Mooloomoon Historic Shearing Shed – Discover the history of shearing and the region’s agricultural heritage along the Edward River.

Did you know these places existed? 🤔

📍Tooleybuc & Moulamein, NSW (4.5 hours from Melbourne CBD) ➕ It’s a great halfway stop between Adelaide & Sydney!

3️⃣ @vicstaterosegarden - Check out the 5000 roses on display! Usually in peak bloom November! (This footage was taken early December 2025)🌹

4️⃣ @josephs_dining - Enjoy a delicious dinner at your accommodation (lamb & beef tenderloin were so yum)!

5️⃣ K Road Cliffs - Walk down to the Werribee River or observe the cliffs from the lookouts! 👀

6️⃣ Werribee Open Range Zoo @zoosvictoria - Take a safari bus tour around the savannah and see 9 elephants in their 21 hectare habitat 🐘

One of the Murray River’s best-kept secrets tucked away in nature! 🤫🌿

We recently did a trip to @visitrivercountry dropping into towns along the border of Victoria and NSW and came across Mathoura, a town by Murray Valley National Park and along the Murray River, it seriously feels like a pocket of heaven! 😍

Here’s how we spent our time here:

🎨Mathoura water tower - Admire ‘Guardians of the Murray’, one of the large-scale murals making up the River Country Art Trail

🦅Reed Beds Bird Hide - You could easily spend an hour here watching for birds but we spotted a Sacred Kingfisher, Rainbow Bee-eater, Red-rumped Parrot and a Little Pied Cormorant!

🧺Picnic Point Reserve - relax by the river here with picnic tables, BBQs and a boat ramp for launching kayaks, canoes and boats onto the Murray River

🍕@thetimbercutter - Dine outside on the riverside deck with views of the Murray while you enjoy wood fired pizzas and other classic favourites (we ordered the Hill Brothers Share Plate)!

🛌@tarragonlodge - Book a river view cabin set on 136 acres of bushland and green lawns, surrounded by the Moira, Millewa, and Barmah state forests

Have you heard of this place before? 🤫🚗

📍Mathoura, NSW (3 hours from Melbourne CBD) ➕It’s only 30 minutes from Echuca Moama so it’s perfect for a day trip!
